Questions- Answers regarding child sponsorship with Humanium
> Who am I sponsoring?
The child you sponsor lives in an impoverished village in Southern India. Some of these children are child labourers whose essential needs are not being met on a daily basis.
Your sponsorship is very important because it makes it possible to help more children who do not have godmothers and godfathers. In reality, the concept of “a sponsored child” is symbolic, given that your generosity is in fact helping up to 6 children!
> Can I correspond with the sponsored child and send them gifts?
Although your kindness towards the children is greatly appreciated by the staff at Humanium, imagine if only a select group of children received letters and gifts…this will only create a sense of animosity and jealousy among the children giving way to emotional imbalance in their lives.
Our #1 priority is to protect the child as well as to respect and uphold their social and cultural environment. Therefore, for the sake of protecting the emotional well-being of the child, it is not possible to correspond with him or her.
> What information will I receive?
Each week, a new article, a testimony and pictures will be posted on our blog.
Through this medium, you will receive updates and inform on the progress of the project that is benefitting the child. Furthermore, you will have access to material on the lives of the children, their families and so forth. This information is available for you to read as many times as you want.
Every 2-3 months, you will also receive the Humanium newsletter via email.
> Do the sponsored children know about us?
The children are aware of the support of several donors, but we do not give them specific information on your identity.
To thank you, the children make drawings that you are able to see through Humanium blog.
> What is the duration of my sponsorship ?
With Humanium, the sponsorship commitment is not binding! There is no duration time for the commitment and the child is never aware of the beginning or end of the sponsorship. This measure is put into effect so that the child doesn’t suffer.
It takes approximately 24 months to complete the projects for the kids. Thus, we recommend a minimum sponsorship commitment of 2 years. But, this of course, is not mandatory.
If your sponsorship goes beyond the 24 months, you are making it possible for Humanium to help more children.
