Education

Education program activities

Through its education program, Humanium NGO raises awareness about Child Labour and the necessity of education. We also support child day-care centers and establish evening tuition centers, in order to guarantee that all children attend school on a regular basis.

Objectives

  • Ensure that all children in the village receive regular and quality elementary education.
  • Eradicate Child Labour.

Approach

Humanium adopts a global and sustainable approach, which deals with all causes of the problems.  Humanium does not set up alternative structures but reinforces the already existing ones in cooperation with the local authorities and villagers, in order to improve the quality of education.

Activities

Raising Awareness about Child Labour

Campaigns involve awareness meetings and events with children and parents to promote collective and long-lasting awareness on the negative effects of Child Labour.

To this end, educators, social activists and social workers organize meetings and events to raise awareness on the negative effects of Child Labour on children’s health.

Enrollment of all children

In every village, non-enrolled children are identified. Individualised solutions adapted to each child are developed with the families’ participation to ensure that all children receive regular and sustainable elementary education.

Evening tuition centers

These centers provide academic support to the children, especially when their parents are illiterate or cannot read well. Each child receives individual support, adapted to their needs.

Transit school

If necessary, transit schools are established in the villages, to help adolescents aged 15 to 18 who have left the school system without graduating. Teachers help them to reach a higher level of education and to have better job opportunities.

Improving the quality of education

Humanium contibutes to improving the quality of education, in order to facilitate children’s learning processes.

Additional teachers are hired to reduce the number of children in classrooms and the teaching methods are improved to become more motivating and fun for the children.

Computer courses for children

Computer courses enable the children to develop additional skills and provide for better job opportunities in the future.

Equipment and renovation of buildings

Schools are often damaged or sub standard and distract from the learning process.  Humanium rehabilitates schools and children centers and provides them with teaching materials, water purifiers, etc.  A positive environment helps to facilitate the learning process of the children.

Parent-Teacher Association

To guarantee regular schooling of the children, Parent-Teacher Associations are established in the villages and contribute to improve education.
