Environment program activities

This program objective is to preserve the nature and reduce the effects of pollution. India galloping industrialisation take a heavy toll on the environment. Environmental degradations such as water pollution, depletion of groundwater resources, soil degradation and air pollution are affecting most of the Indian regions.

Objectives

  • To preserve the environment and reduce the effects of pollution.
  • Promote organic farming, respectful of mankind and nature.

Approach

Humanium promotes an autonomous socio-economic development, combining enviromental preservation and sustainable resources management.

Activities

Awareness campaigns on environmental solutions

Plastic recycling is one of India major challenge. Humanium awareness campaigns are aimed at offering environmental solutions to the villagers to help them reduce plastic waste and promote the use of recyclabe materials.

Cleaning, sorting, collecting and recycling waste

In India, the volume on non-recyclable waste represents more than 60% of household waste, and contribute to environment degradation. In the villages where Humanium NGO implements its projects, collective mass cleanings are organized and containers for collecting and sorting waste are set up.

Improving the management of renewable energy and resources

Humanium trains the villagers to use renewable energy, such as solar energy, or rainwater harvesting to strenghten farming activities. Moreover, water collection tanks are set up/retrofit to improve clean water storage capabilities.

Training on the use of organic fertilizer

The use of chemical fertilizers has led to water pollution and soil degradation. Information sessions about the use of soil improvement methods that are respectful of humans and nature are provided. Likewise, training on organic fertilizer production techniques are offered to interested farmers. These techniques have the advantage of preserving the environment while optimizing farm production.

Introducing biogaz

Biogas plants are established in the villages to develop a fuel for cooking that can serve as an alternative to firewood and limit deforestation.

Planting and distributing trees

To maintain an ecological balance and improve the village living environment, trees are planted along main roads.

Moreover, Humanium distributes trees to villagers to promote the idea of individual gardens and bring an additionnal nutritive resource.
