The streets of Annathur, a village in India, are now maintained and clean. The result is one of several outcomes of our global project to help improve living conditions.

Before Humanium’s intervention, nearly all of the plastic used by the village ended up in nature.

Although organic waste decomposes naturally, this is not the case for plastic waste. At the present time, plastic waste represents most of the waste in the villages of India. Virtually no living organism is able to degrade plastic, of which the durability is also a problem.

Nonetheless, the problem of plastic is also one of education. Organizing the clean up, the sorting, and the collection of waste in a way that supports the autonomy of the villagers is one of our objectives in our environmental program.

The villagers of Annathur are now aware of the need to keep their village clean, and are particularly proud of the result. The village clean up was organized regularly by women’s groups, and waste collection bins have thus been set up in the village.

Support other villages in the fight against plastic! 80 EUR / 100 CHF is enough to organize an awareness campaign in a village. Please make a donation.

He was enrolled in a bridge school specially adapted to allow him to pass his certificate of secondary studies and enroll in a polytechnic program in school.

After 2 years of study in mechanical engineering, Vijayakanth needed help to finance his last year of study. Despite the support of his parents, their extreme poverty did not allow them to finance his education costs.

Like many other students his age, Vijayakanth has the abilities and the motivation to pursue his studies, but does not have sufficient resources.

In 2010 Humanium launched a project to improve the living conditions of the people of Annathur, a village in the Southeast of India. After two years of work, the initiative has met all the villagers’ expectations. Humanium is proud to present the results!

Over the course of two years, the quality of life of the inhabitants hasvastly improved. In order to achieve the defined objectives, five programmes were implemented, focusing on education, microfinance, health, citizenship and the environment.

Numerous interventions and awareness campaigns have enabled essential principles to become embedded in the town, most notably in relation to nutrition, health and hygiene, and also in relation to child protection, natural resource management and respect of the environment. In addition to this, the Citizens’ Centre and the various committees have facilitated real access to information and to varying modes of communication. The people of the village not only know their rights, but also know the different government programmes from which they can benefit.

The improvements made have been remarkable and the village people’s future prospects have greatly improved.

Thanks to the consolidation process conducted before the end of the project, progress continues to be made via the charitable structure and through the village’s Development Committee, which guarantees the continuity and sustainability of the project.

On behalf of the people of Annathur, Humanium would like to thank you for your support and for your continued interest in our programmes. Thank you!

Make a donation to support Humanium’s other projects!

Humanium is a neutral and independent organization. We operate with a network of volunteers who are committed to serving children. Our actions require very little money, but we cannot do anything without it.

In four years of commitment to children and the most vulnerable populations, Humanium helps to improve the living conditions of 6,926 people in India.

We also develop the Children’s Rights Portal on the Internet to promote and defend children’s rights around the world.

I thank you for making a donation now to enable Humanium and its volunteers to continue to make Children’s Rights a reality.

When children have been removed from school for a long time, it is difficult for them to be reintegrated back into school. In India, Humanium supports the school going of children in a bridging school, so that their right to an education is vindicated.

Our local partner, Hand in Hand, has developed a bridging school in which children can learn basic essentials in the pursuit of a “normal” schooling.

In a course of between 6 to 18 months, corresponding to their needs, children regain confidence in themselves. Their level is brought up in order to facilitate their integration into their villages’ school. Therefore, at the end of this training, they can return into their community and benefit from the same chances as other children.

What seems to them impossible becomes real; they return to school and can obtain their diploma.

You also can support the schooling of a child in difficulty, sponsor a child today!

In Azakusamudram, a project for improving the living conditions of the villagers is coming to a close. It has taken two years to achieve the desired objectives and bring about real transformations. The project was a great success!

This project addressed the needs of the Azakusamudram villagers by working on the major problems encountered by the community.

In addition to the results of each of the 5 action programs implemented (education, microfinance, health, citizenship, and environment), a real synergy has been created for attaining several long lasting objectives, such as the elimination of child labor, the improvement of the education system, the socio-economic development of women, the development of income generating activities, the practice of good personal hygiene, good governance, and protection of the environment.

The village now has “child friendly” status, referencing the great effort made to protect their rights and abolish child labor.

The entire community now lives in a clean environment where the economic dynamic allows households to guarantee regular income. Their everyday life has improved thanks to many of the project’s qualitative impacts. The project represents a major success, and the villagers are capable of demonstrating the benefits that they have gained from it.

The village is pursuing its own autonomous development. For this reason consolidation activities have been ended shortly before the finalisation of the project.

Humanium and the Azakusamudram villagers thank everyone who has supported them in successfully completing this project.

You also can participate in the success of other projects in India, make a donation !

November 20 is Universal Children’s Day!

In commemoration of the anniversary of the signing of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Universal Children’s Day is intended to remind people that children too have rights and that it is necessary to protect these rights.

Universal Children’s Day is celebrated to promote children’s rights and to create awareness about the need for child welfare – for the benefit of the children themselves and for society at large.

Although the situation is improving in some parts of the world, more effort is required to ensure that little girls and boys can live in happiness, protected from hunger, cold, disease and abuse.

As Dostoyevski put it: “Nothing justifies a single tear from a single child.”

For further information on the Universal Children’s Day, visit our page.
