Health Awareness Paintings in Azakusamudram, India

May 21st, 2012

The villagers of Azakusamudram, a small village in the south east of India which is being supported by Humanium, have been made aware of the basic principles of hygiene and health.

Murals have been painted to highlight the importance of the basic principles of hygiene and health to the villagers. These paintings focus on the inherent problems of rural life, such as poor nutrition, lack of hygiene, dirty drinking water and inadequate public health policies.

The brightly coloured murals quickly and effectively convey health related messages which have been communicated by our public awareness campaigns.

Thanks to child sponsorship…

May 14th, 2012

Today, thanks to the support of our sponsors, Humanium has been able to develop several projects providing aid to three villages in south-eastern India.

Through its global approach combining different programmes in education, health, microfinance, human rights, the environment, democracy, and citizenship, Humanium has succeeded in making children’s rights a reality for those families, their village, and for an entire community!

Dear sponsors, you can be proud to have fulfilled your commitment to solidarity and cooperation.

There are already more than 3,496 beneficiaries!

- 3 school support centres built
- 133 child labour awareness campaigns
- 10 medical centres established and 874 patients already treated
- 220 family microenterprises created
- 3 committees for the protection of Children’s Rights set up in each village

Humanium would like to sincerely thank all of the donors who work side-by-side with us to improve living conditions for Indian children by enabling them to claim their most basic rights.

Don’t wait any longer! You, too, can sponsor a child with Humanium!

Testimonial – Morgane Daget

May 10th, 2012

Morgane, a graduate student in International Cooperation and Multilingual Communication, has carried out a six month internship in charge of projects at Humanium.

“Six months ago, I was jumping for joy as I had just received the internship offer from Olivier as project manager.

I decided to join Humanium for many reasons but above all as a result of an experience that left an impression on me during a stay in India. Having been a witness to serious domestic violence towards a child and not being able to find the legal means to help him, I promised myself that it would never happen again. Convinced that the means existed to bring help to all children in trouble, I hoped to be able to contribute to the cause by teaming up with Humanium.

Thanks to this internship, I achieved two goals: on a daily basis I could put my technical skills to work as project manager for the service of children but also join forces with the trainees of Children’s Rights to promote those rights throughout the world through the Children’s Rights Portal. Soon, every country will have its own folder of information on the website and each person will then have access to a range of tools which will allow them to help children and no longer feel powerless!

Every day, I had the chance to interact with the volunteers all around the world who lend themselves to the service of children by offering their skills: some share their own stories with us, others photos, others produce translations, and someopen doors to local aid networks for the children in their country…but one thing brings us together, the will to help children worldwide!

Each person close to Humanium brings something to the table, in their own way! So it is with pride that I leave Humanium, with the feeling of having contributed to the accomplishment of all the beautiful things at the heart of such a dynamic group, driven by a touch of madness (Fanny), enthusiasm (Marie), but also hungry (Olivia) for asserting children’s rights in an ethical and responsible light worldwide…I have no worries about the rest: things are in safe hands!

Thanks again to Olivier for his extreme patience, to Arndt for our beautiful discussions, to Shaya for her unconditional love, and to the girls who were adorable throughout this internship!”

A Directory to guide children’s requests for help

April 30th, 2012

Humanium is placing a directory of NGOs and institutions online for each country in the world.

This tool will allow children whose rights have been violated to find the appropriate support from NGOs or specialized institutions all around the world.

This directory is directly integrated into the country profiles on Children’s Rights, which Humanium began to publish at the beginning of 2012.

The Children’s Rights Portal is taking on a new dimension by directly guiding requests for help from victims, wherever they are in the world.

Also, this web directory is interactive. If organizations are already listed for the majority of countries, your contribution will considerably improve this tool and increase its effectiveness.

Do not allow children to see their rights violated and to retreat into lonely, shameful silence!

Start participating in this project today, change the situation of children in the world and complete this directory.

Veterinary Camps in Annathur, India

April 16th, 2012

Thanks to Humanium’s efforts, several veterinary camps have been set up in the village of Annathur, to benefit not only animals but the human population as well.

Agriculture and farming make up more than 70% of work done in this village, and serve as the main sources of sustenance for the villagers.

The villagers’ survival depends upon the good health of their livestock and the yearly growth of their herds. In order to guarantee these essentials, three veterinary camps have been organized, which have treated a total of 1,312 animals.

The animals are hugely important to the village, as they provide consumable products such as milk, eggs, and meat. They can also provide labor, which lightens the workload of the farmers.
Other camps will be created in the coming years to supplement this generous care by providing other services to animals, such as artificial insemination, worming, and vaccinations.

Testimonial – Fanny Busuttil

April 12th, 2012

Fanny Busuttil, graduated from a Master in International Affairs (Dijon), just completed a 4-month internship at Humanium.

“Convinced that a civil society has a major role to play in the fight against violations of human rights, I decided to take part in a work placement at the international headquarters of Humanium in Geneva, a symbol of hope and change.

These four months I spent with philanthropists has confirmed my ambition to continue being involved with the well being of people all over the world.

The international legal methods and topics connected to children really interests me even though it was sometimes hard to work on difficult topics such as prostitution or child trafficking. It is with optimism that the battle to denounce any violations and maintain an international concern for the conditions of children in the world should continue to be fought.

Machiavel said “Where the will is strong, difficulties decrease”. Therefore, I am sure that the ambitious work of the NGO Humanium, as well as other international organisations, will lead to a stronger legal recognition of children’s rights in the future.

I would like to thank Arndt and Olivier Soret for having given me the opportunity to serve the children of the world, at their side, and in particular Olivier, for having shared his experience with me and providing advice for the future. I would also like to thank the whole team with whom I have made friends and with whom I have shared many laughs.

Shoulder to shoulder with other volunteers and the perseverance with which they preformed their daily tasks, I am sure that Humanium will go far in its fight for the recognition and respect for human rights all over the world.

I wish the association good luck; I shall keep an eye on their progress…”

Support groups allow women to find solutions to daily challenges

April 2nd, 2012

Humanium supports women’s support groups in Azakusamudram, India.

These support groups are solidarity groups composed of about twenty women who together, find solutions to deal with daily challenges.

In order to promote the creation of these groups, mural paintings were made in the village.  Thanks to them, women in the community have been informed about the advantages of participating in these groups.

As a result, women gain independence and develop skills.  They support each other and become stronger.

These women still need you, give them vocational training and access to microcredit for 65 Euros or 100 CHF!
