Villagers fight against plastic

Monday, February 18th, 2013

The streets of Annathur, a village in India, are now maintained and clean. The result is one of several outcomes of our global project to help improve living conditions.

Before Humanium’s intervention, nearly all of the plastic used by the village ended up in nature.

Although organic waste decomposes naturally, this is not the case for plastic waste. At the present time, plastic waste represents most of the waste in the villages of India. Virtually no living organism is able to degrade plastic, of which the durability is also a problem.

Nonetheless, the problem of plastic is also one of education. Organizing the clean up, the sorting, and the collection of waste in a way that supports the autonomy of the villagers is one of our objectives in our environmental program.

The villagers of Annathur are now aware of the need to keep their village clean, and are particularly proud of the result. The village clean up was organized regularly by women’s groups, and waste collection bins have thus been set up in the village.

Support other villages in the fight against plastic! 80 EUR / 100 CHF is enough to organize an awareness campaign in a village. Please make a donation.

Give children the keys to their future: sponsor them!

Monday, June 25th, 2012

Sponsoring a child is a big decision:  it does not only improve their welfare and future prospects, but allows them to fully live life as a child!

Sponsorship is a way for donors to contribute through aid, aimed at improving the living conditions of the most disadvantaged children.

There are two main schemes for child sponsorship:

  • Individual child sponsorship: only one child is helped.
  • Collective sponsorship: every child in the same program is helped.

Humanium has decided not to limit the number of children it wants to help. We therefore offer collective sponsorship that will allow children on a program to have an equal chance and opportunity to build their future.

Choosing to sponsor a child with Humanium means giving him or her:

- A quality education
- Access to healthcare
- A balanced, nutritious diet and a regular income for their household
- Respect for his or her rights
- A safe and agreeable environment to grow up in
- The tools to structure their own lives
- A life without violence

Appeal from Olivier Soret, President of Humanium

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

If every person who reads this appeal were to give 1 euro today, Humanium could continue its efforts to enforce Children’s Rights in 2012.

Ladies, Gentlemen, Defenders of Children’s rights,

Humanium is a neutral and independent association. We are a network of volunteers who are involved in helping children. Our actions require very little money, but unfortunately, we cannot do our valuable work without funding.

In 2011, Humanium helped 3,496 people in India, we increased awareness and informed 137,891 people across the world, gave free legal advice in 77 cases for the defence of children’s rights and we shared our battle with 180,327 people on our three Facebook pages.

If each of you were to give just 1 euro, Humanium could continue or even increase its actions in 2012.

I would be grateful for your donations as soon as possible, to enable Humanium and its volunteers to continue making children’s rights a reality.

Thank you for your generosity
Olivier Soret, President of Humanium

Internship testimonial – Stéphanie Berrut

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

“June 16th, 3pm: I have a meeting with Olivier Soret at Association Humanium (Versoix, Switzerland). I arrive on time… a little early even. I have a chat with members of the team and learn about the organisation. Then I meet Shaya, the mascott of Humanium, who greets me very warmly.

With Shaya’s agreement, I become part of Humanium. My internship in charge of the development of the Childrens’ rights portal begins on July 4th, 2011.

When I applied for this internship (posted on Idealist.org), I hoped first to commit to a cause that was -and still is- dear to my heart: to learn about the rights of the child. I also wanted to put into practice the knowledge I acquired during my studies. Working for Humanium was a wonderful opportunity that allowed me to do both.

More precisely, during the two months of my internship I was able to support various projects and tasks at the association, including researching information and multimedia content, writing and publication of web content, coordination of volunteers, management of translators and proof-readers, etc. I also had the opportunity to contribute to legal research and the establishment of a data base.

Although brief, this experience was very interesting both from a professional and humane angle. I had the chance to work with a friendly and motivated team, and most importantly, one that is dedicated to the rights of the child. I thank them all and wish them a beautiful, splendid, wonderful and fantastic way ahead…”
