Water Management Platforms

To allow villagers access to safe drinking water whilst ensuring the hygiene of water points, two water management platforms have been constructed.

Up until now, the village of Sankarapuram has not had adequate facilities to ensure the hygiene of water points, not being equipped with drainage systems to allow the infiltration of the water into the ground. The resulting stagnant water generated serious health risks, provoking diseases like malaria, and leading to a very high rate of infant mortality.

To prevent this accumulation of stagnant water, platforms have been built around the village’s water taps. These concrete platforms enable the water to be diverted into trays of sand, thus facilitating its infiltration into the ground. Although simple, this system gives excellent results in in terms of improving the villagers’ health and increasing the survival chances the village’s children.
