November 20th : Children\u2019s rights Day<\/h2>\n

The Children\u2019s day (or Children\u2019s rights day) is celebrated every 20th of November ; This day marks the anniversary of the International convention for Children\u2019s rights<\/a> of November 20th 1989. <\/strong><\/p>\n

History of Children\u2019s Day<\/h3>\n

In 1954, the UN recommended that \u00ab every country should introduce a Children\u2019s Day which will be devoted to fraternity and to comprehension among children of the world, and which will stand out by activities encouraging Children\u2019s well-being throughout the world. \u00bb (1)<\/p>\n

If the UN \u00ab suggests to governments of each states to observe children\u2019s Day on the day and in the way that best suit them \u00bb, events of 1959 and 1989 designate inevitably the 20th November.<\/p>\n

\"\"In fact, on November 20th 1959, the UN adopted the Children\u2019s rights declaration, and on November 20th 1989, almost all of the states taking part in the UN ratified the International Convention for Children\u2019s rights<\/a>.To this day, only the United-States and Somalia have not ratified this convention.<\/p>\n

What is the \u00ab correct \u00bb name for this day ?<\/h3>\n

According to Resolution 836 (IX) of December 1954 of the United Nations, the original appellation for this day is \u00ab Children\u2019s Day \u00bb.<\/p>\n

However, throughout the historic events taking place in 1959 and 1989, this Children\u2019s Day is also known as Children\u2019s Rights day or the International Children\u2019s Rights day.<\/p>\n

Why Children\u2019s Day ?<\/h3>\n

The establishment of a Children\u2019s day by the UN aims at attracting the attention on an important issue: Children\u2019s well-being throughout the world.<\/p>\n

The United Nations have considered that they \u201c would not be able to fulfill their obligations regarding the future generations without intensifying their efforts in favour of Children in the world, who are future citizens, and that a worldwide celebration of this Children\u2019s day would contribute to human solidarity and to international cooperation \u00bb (1).<\/p>\n

Each year, November 20th reminds us that \u00ab humanity must give children the best it can provide \u00bb (2). This day reminds us of the necessity of acting in favour of the well-being of children in the whole wide world.<\/p>\n
