Adopted in 1989, the Convention\u2019s objective is to protect the rights of all children in the world.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>The 1st legally binding text that protects the rights of children<\/h3>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5486 alignleft\" title=\"The General Assembly of the United Nations adopts the Convention - \u00a9 UN\/J. Isaac\" src=\"https:\/\/www.humanium.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/portail-fr\/UN-John-isaac.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"126\" \/><em>The Convention is the first legally binding international instrument<\/em><\/strong> of Children\u2019s Rights protection. That means that it establishes an obligatory force to the body of all the rights it stipulates.<\/p>\n<p>That implies that the States that ratified the Convention are obligated to respect and to ensure that all rights it establishes in the name of children are respected.<\/p>\n<h3>The most comprehensive text for the protection of children\u2019s rights<\/h3>\n<p>This Convention represents the most comprehensive international text that exists in terms of children\u2019s rights protection. Even though other international instruments, such as the International Pacts, the ILO Conventions, and\u00a0the international adoption Convention guarantee children\u2019s rights, <strong><em>the Convention is the only text to address all aspects of children\u2019s rights.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5487 alignright\" title=\"The Convention protects the body of all children\u2019s rights \u00a9 UNESCO\/T.Munita\" src=\"https:\/\/www.humanium.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/portail-fr\/UNESCO-T-Munita.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"139\" \/>The Convention comprises 54 articles that establish the body of all children\u2019s civil and political rights, as well as their economic, social and cultural rights.<\/p>\n<p>It also advocates the protection and promotion of the rights of special needs children, of minority children and of refugee children.<\/p>\n<p>This Convention establishes 4 principles that must\u00a0govern the implementation of all the rights it advocates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Non-discrimination<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanium.org\/en\/the-childs-best-interest\/\">Best interest of the child<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Right to life, survival and development<\/li>\n<li>Respect for the views of the child<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Convention was completed in 2000 with two Protocols and in 2011 with a thrid one:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5488 alignleft\" title=\"The convention was completed \u00a9 UN\" src=\"https:\/\/www.humanium.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/portail-fr\/un-adoption-protocol.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanium.org\/en\/protocol-child-soldier\/\"> optional Protocol regarding the involvement of children in armed conflicts<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanium.org\/en\/protocol-child-sale\/\">optional Protocol regarding the sale of children, children prostitution and children pornography<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanium.org\/en\/convention\/protocol\/\">optional Protocol\u00a0\u00a0regarding the complaints procedure before the Committee on the Rights of the Child.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">A legally binding instrument endowed with a monitoring mechanism<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Convention advocates, in part II, that its implementation be monitored by a committee of experts.
