World cancer day: Act together

cancer

Every year on February 4, World Cancer Day is celebrated throughout the world. This disease remains one of the main causes of death worldwide.

Cancer causes the death of 90,000 children every year

ChildCancerRibbonMagnetIt is estimated that today 14 million new cases of cancer are recorded each year, with 8.2 million people dying from it. According to WHO, 60% of new cancer cases occur in Africa , Asia, Central America and Latin America

On this important day,it is crucial to remember that, unfortunately, cancer does not spare children.

Although it only represents between 1% and 2% of all cancer in developed countries, childhood cancers are still rare and difficult to treat, especially as certain types of cancer are specific to children. Today, there are about 160,000 children still suffering from this disease, and 90,000 children per year worldwide who die from it.

Insufficient progress has been made

Over the last few years, substantial progress has been made regarding treatment and research, which means that today approximately four out of five children can be cured. Obviously, this figure varies depending on the type and extent of the disease at diagnosis.

Although the World Health Organization is actively committed to the fight against cancer through its programs which target prevention, early detection and treatment , a great deal of effort is still needed to be able to reduce the rate of cancer considerably throughout the world and to find a real cure for it.

If no concrete action is taken, the world will see an increase in cases of cancer reaching 22 million per year, with 13 million deaths per year over the next 20 years.

Humanium supports the fight against cancer

On this World Cancer Day, our thoughts are with everyone, especially children and their families, who a3874999965_5810fe96bf_bre suffering from this disease throughout the world. Humanium is also using this day to launch an appeal to states, international organisations, NGOs, institutions and individuals for joint action with the goal of multiplying efforts to
save lives, and to extend full support to associations that are actively fighting this terrible disease.

It is precisely because every human life counts that the fight against cancer must be tackled together.
