Children’s Rights History
« Mankind owes to the child the best that it has to give.» It is with these words that the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted in 1924, followed by a Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959.
Convention on the Rights of the Child
On November 20, 1989, the General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously adopted the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. The application of this text represents a goal for all humankind.
Children in the world
All children have the same rights. However, their rights are violated in many countries, and children do not benefit from the same rights.
Focus
The main factor linked to the violation of children’s rights is poverty. Many problems persist such as working children, discrimination, abuse and the sexual exploitation of children.
