Amazing progress in just two years!

In 2012, Humanium launched a project to improve the living conditions of children and villagers in the village of Keelpasar in India. This community development project had two aims: to provide schooling for every child, and to improve hygiene conditions in the village. This project has now been in place for 18 months, and we are pleased to be able to report on its progress to you.

The objectives, established jointly between Humanium, its local partners and the villagers of Keelpasar, are currently being achieved, and a tangible difference is already evident in the key areas of intervention.

Nearly 30 students from Grades 2-5 attend classes in the Children’s Learning Centre (CLC). Thanks to our support, our local partner was able to provide the CLC with a mathematics and Tamil study pack. This pack proved to be effective in addressing the learning gaps of most of the students.
A medical centre has also been established which provides healthcare, as well as awareness training on sanitation and hygiene, to its members. The health initiative has also been influential in renovating, and also providing new equipment for the day-care centre of the village, where over 25 children between the ages of one and five attend on a daily basis.

24 year old Lakshmi is a mother of two. She attended the six module health and hygiene training and shares her experience:
« Now I know how to feed and keep my baby clean. Before I had no idea that we need to boil drinking water. The training was extremely useful to me. I follow all the instructions given ».

Today, Keelpasar is experiencing a radical transformation in the areas of education, health, hygiene, and the empowerment of women. Self-sufficiency for the village of Keelpasar is becoming a reality!
