In the village of Sankarapuram in India, 22 people with cataracts were operated on with the support of the Humanium association.
Cataracts is an eye disease that is the result of the clouding of the eye, on the converging lens that is in the interior of the eye. If cataracts affects one in five people over the age of 65, and if the treatment is common in the northern countries then imagine what it is like for those living with the disease in a village in the south of India where people are struggling to meet the daily needs of their families. Cataracts is synonymous with blindness, sentenced to obscurity.
Thanks to the support of Humanium, medical camps specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease were allowed to operate on 22 elderly people with cataracts.
“I thought that I would never see my children again…”, says an elderly woman. Today, her and other villagers have found the light.
