International Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers

Posted on Posted in Human Rights

Today we estimate that there are between 250,000 and 300,000 child soldiers worldwide.

The International Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers on February 12th is a time to remember the importance of this phenomenon which not only exists in Africa but also in other places around the world.

“Child soldiers are often seen as victims of adults and we tend to draw more attention to those who are forced into recruitment over those who voluntarily enlist. However, the majority of children choose to become soldiers and are actively involved in conflicts.”
