This year, from the 30th of July to the 1st of August 2018, together with about 400 children and adults from all over the world, I, Arndt Soret, Co-Founder and CEO of Humanium, participated in the CATS Caux Forum in Switzerland.
Children’s Rights in Europe, really ? YES !
Following the latest numbers I learnt a month ago at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, 80% of violence happens, where.. ? Right, at home ! Everywhere in the world, if in Europe, Africa, Asia or else..
And yes, when I received the invitation « With children against violence » I said to myself, « yes Arndt, together we are stronger ! ». And, indeed, with children for children against violence transformed into « Safe Together », beautiful !
It is all about changing people’s attitudes, nobody is perfect and has her / his needs, challenges and wishes.. if black or white, if woman or man, if girl or boy. We are all « only » humans, must be kind to each other, forgive, stand into each other’s shoes and feel into the other.
When looking into our immediate environment, we can learn so much already, give to & learn from.. And, of course, making the voices of the most vulnerable humans of our society, the kids, speak, dance, express themselves and finding a common denominator between kids and adults changes our consciousnesses and makes a better world where violence is reduced and children evolve !
Lastly, I wouldn’t be a lawyer if I’d not quote famous Art. 31 of the Child Rights Convention :
- States Parties recognize the right of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.
- States Parties shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.
