The Condition of Children Worldwide
Children’s right to life, of survival and development is a fundamental right recognized by all countries. However, every day, thousands of children lose their lives.
Today, the right to education is recognized as a fundamental right by all countries. Nevertheless, it remains as an inaccessible right for many children.
Today, more than one billion people in the world are exposed to the problems of undernourishment. Among them, 800 million suffer from malnutrition.
Millions of children suffer from the lack of medical care. Each year, more than 13 million children under five die from diseases that could be prevented.
Today, more than 885 million people worldwide are forced to drink unhygienic,non-potable water and 2.5 billion people lack adequate sanitation.
Each year, millions of children around the world are denied the right to an identity. In 2007, more than 51 million children were not registered.
All children have the right to the freedom of opinion, expression and association. Yet, most of them do not have the chance to savor nor enjoy their freedoms.
All children have the right to have a protective environment. Nonetheless, today in most countries, children are victims of discrimination, abuse and exploitation.
